Darjeeling: The Fruity One

Darjeeling tea, often called the "champagne of teas," is a highly prized black tea from the Darjeeling district in the Himalayan foothills of India. Known for its light body, floral aroma, and unique "muscatel" flavour, Darjeeling tea offers a delicate, complex taste that can vary with the harvest season.

Tasting Notes

Dark and fruity, our Darjeeling kombucha is decadent. Firm and tannic, with notes of vine fruits and is the most tea-forward in our ‘Just Tea’ range. Thanks to our house culture, Left Field Kombucha naturally contains a host of healthy organic acids, and gut-healthy bacteria which contribute to good gut health, promoting a balanced digestive system.

Our products prioritise high-quality, craft-brewed, ethically sourced tea, allowing the natural flavours to shine through. When brewing kombucha, we only add three things (tea leaves, sugar, and water) to our natural fermentation culture which imparts lots of gut-healthy acids and bacteria. Our award-winning handcrafted drinks are naturally low in calories, and a grown-up alternative to sugary soft drinks.

Awarded Gold at the 2022 Great Taste Awards.

Serving & Storing

Best served chilled as it comes. Try with a slice of ginger and a sprig of mint. Our Darjeeling kombucha is the perfect accompaniment to brunch, desserts, and cheese.

You can drink our kombucha straight from the bottle, or pour it into a glass. You may find a little sediment in the bottle, which is made up of harmless yeast and bacteria cells, and is completely normal.

Left Field Kombucha is a living, unpasteurised drink. To retain its goodness, store in a cool, dark environment until you're ready to drink it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Darjeeling Kombucha so special compared to other flavours?

This is the most tea-forward kombucha in the Left Field range — bold but elegant. It’s brewed with Darjeeling Second Flush tea, often called the “champagne of teas”, and delivers vine fruit notes with a crisp, dry finish. Customers consistently describe it as “refined”, “balanced”, and “surprisingly satisfying”. One regular buyer wrote that it’s their go-to when they want something “grown-up but light”. If you love kombucha that highlights real tea, not hidden behind fruit or fizz, this one’s for you.

Is this Darjeeling Kombucha very fruity or sweet?

Not at all. The fruitiness comes from the tea’s natural muscatel flavour — think ripe grapes or blackcurrants — not added sugars. It's not sweet in the traditional sense, but subtly fruity with a tannic grip that reminds people of a dry red wine. As one reviewer put it, “It’s more like sipping something classy than drinking a soft drink”. If you’re avoiding sugary drinks but still want flavour, this hits a rare middle ground.

Does this Darjeeling tea kombucha contain caffeine?

Yes, but only a small amount — enough to gently lift your energy without a crash. Since it’s brewed from black tea, it naturally contains caffeine, though less than a standard cup. Several customers mentioned it as a lovely mid-afternoon boost that “feels cleaner than coffee”. One even said they’ve swapped their second espresso for a chilled bottle of Darjeeling Kombucha and “haven’t looked back since”.

Is Darjeeling Kombucha good for digestion?

Absolutely. It’s packed with gut-friendly acids and live cultures thanks to its unpasteurised brewing process. Many drinkers enjoy it after a meal — one called it “a refreshing reset for my stomach after dinner”. Others have shared that it’s their go-to when they feel heavy or bloated. It’s not just flavourful — it actually makes you feel better.

Can I pair Darjeeling Kombucha with food?

Yes — and it shines especially well with brunch, cheese, or desserts. Its crisp, dry profile acts almost like a food-friendly sparkling wine. Some customers say it’s the kombucha they open when they want to feel a bit fancy without alcohol. One review mentioned pairing it with a cheesecake and calling the combination “unexpectedly perfect”.

How does this kombucha Darjeeling flavour compare to others in the range?

Darjeeling stands out for its pure, unadulterated tea flavour. While others lean into floral, citrus or earthy notes, this one lets the black tea do the talking. Customers who tried all four often land on Darjeeling as “the most balanced and refreshing”. One fan wrote: “If Yunnan is the smoky one and Sencha is the sharp one, Darjeeling is the one you pour into a wine glass and sip slowly.”

Is it suitable for vegans, gluten-free diets, and alcohol-free lifestyles?

Yes. It’s vegan, gluten-free, and non-alcoholic (under 0.25% ABV). It’s also made with Fairtrade sugar and ethically sourced tea — so it’s kind to your body and the planet. A reviewer who was cutting back on alcohol said it was “the first kombucha that felt like a true alternative — not just a fizzy health drink”.

Will I enjoy this if I don’t like sour kombucha?

Most likely, yes. Left Field’s Darjeeling Kombucha is known for its smooth acidity and refined finish. Several people said they were “put off by supermarket kombucha” until they tried this one. One customer shared that she “expected something sharp and vinegary, but it was smooth, deep, and completely drinkable”.

How should I store and serve Darjeeling Kombucha?

Store it in a cool, dark place, then chill it before drinking. Many drinkers enjoy it straight from the bottle, but some say pouring it into a wine or champagne glass adds to the ritual. One regular fan said they “serve it with a slice of ginger and mint — and it looks as good as it tastes”.

What if I want to subscribe or try it with a discount?

First-time buyers can get £5 off just by entering their email — a no-risk way to see if this becomes your next favourite. If you do fall for it (and many do), you can subscribe and save 5% on future orders. Tina wrote that she keeps Darjeeling in her fridge “at all times — because running out is simply not an option”.
