9. How to Get the Most Out of Your Kombucha: Tips for Serving, Pouring, and Pairing
Kombucha is an experience, from the pop of the bottle to the satisfying fizz and that first sip. To make the most of each bottle, a few simple tips can enhance the overall enjoyment. From handling sediment to pairing it with the perfect snack, here’s everything you need to know for a top-notch kombucha experience.
Sediment: To Drink or Not?
The sediment is entirely normal and is a mix of yeast and healthy bacteria. For maximum health benefits from the fermentation process, we recommend lightly mixing the sediment back into the liquid. Our preferred methods are by gently tilting the bottle back and forth a few times, or laying flat on a surface and rolling it a couple of times. We do not recommend shaking it! As a carbonated drink, this could lead to an overflow of bubbles and mess!
If the texture isn’t to your taste, simply pour the kombucha slowly into a glass, leaving the last bit of sediment at the bottom.
Pouring Kombucha for the Best Bubbles
Pouring kombucha may seem straightforward, but if you’re a fan of the bubbles, there’s a technique to make the most of them. Here’s how to do it:
- Tilt the glass: Hold your glass at a slight angle as you pour, much like pouring a beer.
- Gently does it: A slow, steady pour preserves the carbonation and gives you a balanced drink.
- Serve immediately: Kombucha is at its best when freshly poured. Enjoying it straight away means you’ll catch the fizz at its peak.
Pairing Kombucha with Food
Kombucha’s tangy, slightly acidic taste makes it a versatile drink to pair with a variety of snacks. Here are a few favourites:
Yunnan: spiced nuts and strong cheese
Sencha Green: crudites and hummus/dips
Oolong: fresh fruits/cheese
Darjeeling: cheese/charcuterie/spiced nuts
Kombucha is a dynamic drink, and with these tips, you can make the most of each bottle, from the pour to the pairing.
