Darjeeling tea, often called the "champagne of teas," is a highly prized black tea from the Darjeeling district in the Himalayan foothills of India. Known for its light body, floral aroma, and unique "muscatel" flavour, Darjeeling tea offers a delicate, complex taste that can vary with the harvest season.

This refined tea is what we use in our No.4 Darjeeling kombucha.

All our loose leaf teas are premium and ethically-sourced.

This product is 50g of Darjeeling loose leaf tea.

When will your order reach you?

We ship Monday to Friday with DHL.

Our couriers collect from us at roughly 3pm so if your order was placed later than 2.30pm, then it will be dispatched the following working day.

Our couriers deliver Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 6.00pm, but during busy times, deliveries may be made outside of these times, and may take longer.

We cannot be held responsible for disruption to shipping caused by industrial disputes, weather, damaged goods or actions outside our direct control.

How do I track my order?

Once the order leaves the brewery you will receive an email with tracking information - please follow the link in your email. If you have any questions about delivery, please check with the courier service.

Safe place / delivery instructions

Please ensure there will be someone available to sign for the delivery.

We can deliver to places of work if you request it at the time of order.

If you would like your delivery left in a safe place, please ensure you complete the delivery instructions box at checkout. We know you can't always guarantee you will be at home so this really helps to ensure you don't have to travel to your local (or not so local!) delivery office to collect a case of heavy bottles. Once it leaves the brewery, your order is within the courier system. We can't influence the courier company - you will need to contact them directly to rearrange delivery.

What happens if I miss my delivery?

If nobody is in when the courier attempts to deliver, then a card will be left informing you that an attempted delivery had been made. If you do not contact the courier company within 48 hours, the kombucha may be returned to us. In this situation, we will credit your account, less any delivery charge.

Problems with your order

Where's your order?

If your order does not arrive within 3 days of dispatch, please contact us by email Info@leftfieldkombucha.co.uk. We understand that a missing, damaged, or delayed shipment can be frustrating. Once a case leaves our brewery the shipment is in the hands of our courier and things can go wrong. In these circumstances we will do our best to send replacements or offer refunds for damaged goods ASAP.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Darjeeling loose leaf tea so special?

Darjeeling is often called the “champagne of teas” — and for good reason. Grown in the misty Himalayan foothills of India, this tea offers a light, floral body with distinctive muscatel notes. It’s not overpowering like some black teas, but elegant and layered.

One customer told us: “I didn’t know tea could taste like this — fruity, clean and calming.” If you're looking to buy Darjeeling tea online, this is the one that reminds you tea is a craft, not a commodity.

What does Darjeeling black tea taste like?

Delicate but complex. You'll notice grape-like fruitiness, floral high notes, and a dry finish that feels almost like a fine white wine. It’s a tea you sip slowly — not just to wake up, but to enjoy the moment.

Some drinkers describe it as “a quiet kind of luxury.” And since this is a Darjeeling loose leaf tea, not a dusty bag, the flavour opens fully with each steep.

Is this first flush or second flush Darjeeling?

This particular tea is a Second Flush Darjeeling, known for its muscatel depth and fuller flavour. It's harvested later in the season, which gives it a richer body than First Flush.

We chose this flush because it’s what we use in our kombucha — and it’s consistently praised for balance. If you love black tea with finesse, you'll appreciate this one.

How should I brew this Darjeeling tea loose?

Use 1 teaspoon per cup, steeped in freshly boiled water (90–95°C) for 2–4 minutes. It's delicate, so avoid oversteeping. Let it bloom, taste, and adjust to your liking.

Some customers steep it twice — once light and then stronger — and describe both cups as “two different expressions of the same tea.”

What’s the caffeine level in Darjeeling leaf tea?

Like all black teas, it contains moderate caffeine — enough for focus and clarity, but not as much as coffee. Most people feel gently energised, without the jitters.

One customer drinks it mid-morning to replace their second coffee, saying, “It gives me clarity, not a crash.”

Is this Darjeeling loose tea ethically sourced?

Yes. All our teas are sourced from producers that are part of the Ethical Tea Partnership. That means fair labour practices, better farming conditions, and sustainable tea production.

Buying tea should feel good in every sense — and our customers appreciate knowing their purchase supports more than just their own wellbeing.

How fresh is the tea when I buy Darjeeling online from you?

We pack every 50g bag fresh in our brewery, stored in optimal conditions until shipped. Because we also use this tea in our kombucha, we have regular turnover — so it’s never sitting on a shelf for months.

You’re not getting old stock from a third-party warehouse. You’re getting Darjeeling leaf tea online that’s truly cared for.

Can I use this tea to make kombucha at home?

Yes — and we encourage it! This is the exact Darjeeling we use in our No.4 Kombucha, and it works beautifully in home fermentations. The floral complexity comes through, without overpowering your SCOBY.

One kombucha homebrewer said switching to our tea made their batch “taste like a small-batch wine”. That’s the power of real tea.

Is this tea suitable for afternoon drinking?

It’s perfect. Darjeeling’s light body makes it a classic choice for afternoon tea — especially if you enjoy it with desserts, pastries, or cheese.

Several customers pour it into a wine glass and savour it chilled in summer. “It’s my alcohol-free treat,” one of them told us.

How should I store my Darjeeling tea loose at home?

Keep it in a cool, dark cupboard in an airtight container. We ship in resealable bags, but feel free to transfer it to a tin or jar if you prefer.

Properly stored, it’ll maintain freshness for up to 12 months — though most of our fans finish it well before then.

What’s the best way to enjoy this tea?

That’s the beauty of Darjeeling — it’s versatile. Brew it hot for a calming moment, chill it with mint for a summer refresh, or pair it with sharp cheese for a surprising harmony.

One customer even said it helps her wind down at the end of the workday: “It’s my moment of peace before the evening begins.”

Why should I buy Darjeeling tea online from Left Field?

Because we drink it too. This isn’t generic supermarket tea — it’s the same premium Darjeeling we use in our kombucha, and we source it with intention.

When you buy Darjeeling tea online from us, you're not buying from a warehouse — you're buying from people who brew, taste, and care about tea every single day.
