A Guide to British Summer: Bees, Brollies, and Booch

A Guide to British Summer: Bees, Brollies, and Booch

Ah, the British summer. That liminal two-week stretch between jumper season and hosepipe bans. Where the sun dips in just long enough to pink your shoulders and melt your 99, before vanishing behind clouds. But here at Left Field Kombucha, we see summer through a different lens—a glass one, effervescing with wild fizz and joy.

So, pop your bottle, tilt your head skyward (or umbrella-ward), and join us on this fizzy little guide to making the most of a British summer.

1. Weather or Not

Let’s be honest: British summer is less of a season and more of a negotiation. It’s hot! It’s cold! It’s hailing sideways! You’ll need SPF 50 and a waterproof in the same hour.

Top tip: Channel your inner kombucha—embrace the unpredictability. Your plans might get rained off, but your attitude doesn’t have to.

2. Botanicals & BBQs

There’s something so Right Field about the smell of marinated aubergines charring next to some slightly overzealous halloumi burgers.

Pair with:

  • Darjeeling for that smoky, floral flirtation.
  • Hops & Sea Salt kombucha soda for that salty, hoppy pairing.

3. Picnics with Personality

Forget limp lettuce and clingfilm calamities. British summer picnics should be bold, fermented, and borderline bougie.

Left Field favourites:

  • A wedge of mature cheddar with a glug of our Yunnan.
  • Kimchi scotch eggs (yes, really)—not for the faint of palate.
  • A cool bag of chilled kombucha for sipping while staring wistfully at passing clouds and contemplating existence (or seagulls).

4. Wimbledon & Wimbledone

Strawberries? Yes. Cream? If you must. But let’s take it further—pair strawberries with our tart Sencha Green to cut through the sweetness like a serve from Serena.

Make your own booch spritzer:

  • 1 part kombucha (black tea base works best)
  • 1 part sparkling water
  • A handful of crushed berries
  • A sprig of mint

5. The Soundtrack of Summer

Think cicadas in Cornwall, buskers in Bristol, and the gentle thrum of the Edinburgh Fringe. Fermentation has a sound too—the pop of a cap, the hiss of the pour, the fizz as it comes alive in the glass.

Let your summer playlist include:

  • The sound of bees in lavender.
  • The splash of wild swimming.
  • The fizz of your second bottle of kombucha being cracked open at golden hour.

6. Embrace the Wildness

British summer isn’t tidy. It’s not sleek. It’s midges and muddy knees and finding sand in your bed three weeks later. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Go wild. Forage elderflowers, dance in the drizzle, drink kombucha on a hilltop.

Whether your summer's full of sunsets or soggy socks, make it a little more Left Field. Ferment some memories.
